Kam S. Phillips believes “you can only dream what you’ve seen”. Upon realizing the unique outlook her experiences in areas such as rodeo and skiing provided, Phillips, a first generation college student, created Dream Outside the Box (DOTB). Since creating the program in 2009, DOTB has expanded to 16 college campuses around the country, been honored by President Obama at the White House as a “Campus Champion of Change”, featured on mtvU and CNN/HLN and created a subscription box service, Dream Delivered.
Kam currently serves as the Principal Consultant of Dream Architects, a stealth consulting firm. Previously, Phillips served at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs as an Innovation fellow and worked for the Texas Senate. Kam is a Harry S. Truman Scholar from Fort Worth, Texas and a proud alum of the University of Missouri. As of the fall of 2019, Kam will pursue an MBA at Harvard Business School. Kam’s perfect day involves traveling to new countries, barrel racing or working cattle with her family.
John Walton Brookman is a Fort Worth, Texas native and practicing attorney for more than 25 years. He has invested time in Fort Worth youth as both a youth football coach for 20 years and Former Chairman of the Communities in Schools of Greater Tarrant County Board. He is the proud father to 5 energetic children and husband to Bari.
Newton Davis is a consultant, urbanist, and entrepreneur who currently works as a business analyst in Accenture’s management consulting practice. As the founder and General Manager of Urban Unchained, an organization focused on promoting bikes as the vehicle for the 21st century, he focuses on leveraging technology and community organizing principals to create movements and sustainable communities. He’s a 2012 graduate of Williams College and currently resides in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is also a 2011 Truman Scholar.
Breana Jones is a multimedia journalist currently residing in New York City, New York. A military child, she was born in Los Angeles, California and spent her childhood in multiple countries, including Germany and Japan. While studying broadcast journalism at the University of Missouri, she discovered her love of service through the new and burgeoning organization: Dream Outside the Box. Eventually she was entrusted with the role as the first Director of Public Relations for the Columbia, Missouri chapter of DOTB. She is currently studying journalism at New York University with a focus on social justice issues.
